Why I've decided to go racing

Although I’ve always loved racing, it didn’t really cross my mind to even think about going racing myself until recently. It was always something that my mum repeatedly said from a young age was not allowed on the grounds of it being too unsafe (sorry mum), and something that would more than likely end up being a blackhole for funds. Apart from the occasional track day, it wasn’t something on the cards, apart from a race here and there on the playstaion, however, a few things have changed my mind…

1) Spending so much time trackside

Over the years covering all aspects of the race weekend and spending more and more time with like minded car enthusiats, i’ve found it hard not to want to get involved on the other side!

2- Getting back into track days

Project NC is definitely a big factor too. The first fun car I've owned since moving to the UK, it has been the perfect catalyst to get me back into the ‘fun’ side of cars. Over the past few years, I’ve definitely become more aware that when you’re surrounded by some amazing motors all the time for work, it’s easy to become desensitised. Sadly, that means I also lost touch with the original feelings I had when I first got into the industry, and that’s about enjoying cars first. By working on a project car, it’s been really great to get back into meeting people and enjoying time behind the wheel. Track days inevitably became a part of the experience, so logically racing comes next!

3 - Being offered a seat

Flashing back to a track day at Spa in 2018, I remember thinking ‘Oh, he’s just being nice’ when my good friend Simon mentioned that he’d like to share his MGB with me in my favourite event of the year - the Spa Six Hours. But in late 2019, I was officially invited! ‘Shit, he’s serious! I’d better get my race license!’ I thought.

Clearly number three on this list is the biggest factor - It’s not everyday an opportunity like this comes about, so I must say a massive thank you to Simon for the opportunity and giving me a huge incentive to start racing. I’m definitley not going to be breaking any speed records any time soon but I can’t wait for the driving experience!
